Marketing
These are the marketing, promotional, and distribution services we provide as part of our publishing packages under the Belle Isle Books imprint:
OUR WEBSITE. Our titles are posted and available for sale on our website.
AMAZON.COM and BARNESANDNOBLE.COM. Your book will be available for purchase from amazon.com and bn.com. We will optimize your title on Amazon by including the Search Inside the Book option, which allows a potential customer to browse a few pages of your book online. This is a great feature that can make the difference when a customer discovers your listing.
DISTRIBUTOR. Our books are available through Ingram Book Group, a leader in print and electronic wholesale and distribution. Through this system, we are able to make your title available through Ingram Book Group, a leader in print and electronic wholesale and distribution serving over 39,000 retailers, libraries, schools, Internet commerce companies and other channel partners, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Chapters/Indigo (Canada), and other well-known retailers and wholesalers of books. Our titles are available for sale in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Europe, Australia, India, Poland, Russia, China, and South Korea.
LIBRARY OF CONGRESS AND BOOKS IN PRINT. We register our books with a Library of Congress Catalogue Number (LCCN), which will aid librarians in gaining necessary information about our titles for purchase and proper placement on library shelves. Participation in this program is a weighty advantage. We also list our books in the Books in Print and myidentifiers databases, which list books currently in print in the US. Publisher, key search words associated with our titles, ordering information, price, discounts, and other essential data are available to booksellers, libraries, wholesalers, jobbers, and other book buyers, which exposes our books to buyers nationwide.
BROADCAST EMAILING. We market our books through participation in an email broadcast program, which allows us to send permission-based emails announcing publication to Brandylane/Belle Isle customers, local, regional, and national booksellers, bloggers, as well as to local, regional and national media, including Publisher’s Weekly, Library Journal, the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, and other major and minor publications. We blast information about our books to thousands of recipients.
INDEPENDENT BOOKSELLERS AND CHAINS. We automatically send copies of our books to the buyers at Barnes and Noble and to other booksellers. Our books are widely available for purchase online directly from us, and can be ordered by independent booksellers, wholesalers, jobbers, and buyers in the US and abroad. We work hard every day so our books can be discovered by readers.
SELL SHEET. We prepare a one-page sell sheet for our titles, which includes a front cover image, book specifications, a book summary, an author bio, relevant promotional information, and ordering information. We send this sell sheet to potential buyers, reviewers, bloggers, and media, and provide a PDF of this document to the author.
COVER IMAGE FILES. We prepare and provide digital files of the title’s front cover in various sizes to the author to be used for promotional purposes, including for websites, articles, flyers, and other purposes.
PDF REVIEW COPY. We prepare a PDF galley/review copy of our books. This is a single file containing the entire book (including front and back covers) that can be emailed to potential buyers, reviewers, and media. Reviewers and potential buyers are often willing to accept a digital copy, which saves the cost of having to mail a hardcopy of your book. We provide the author with a copy of this file.
PRESS RELEASES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. We prepare a press release announcing publication of each book and send it to local, regional, statewide, national, and international media.
REVIEWS. We send print or digital review copies of each of our titles to regional and national reviewers and publications, including Booklist, Library Journal, Publisher’s Weekly, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Constitution, Boston Herald, other national daily papers, publications, and bloggers.
GOOGLE BOOKS. We add each of oour titles to Google Books online. Google scans up to 20% of a title and posts it on their website. Readers discover our books listed when they use certain key words in their searches.
FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM. We post information about each of our titles on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages, as well as on our website. We announce author presentations/signings and other appearances on social media. We also assist authors with setting up professional Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram accounts and provide social media guidance.
SIGNINGS/APPEARANCES. We expect authors to take a very active role in seeking venues where they can appear for book talks, readings, and signings. Although we don’t often set up events for authors, we help coordinate their events and provide guidance on how to contact booksellers, non-book retailers, libraries, churches, coffee shops, and other venues to arrange appearances. We will also vigorously promote our authors’ events via social media, local and regional media, and community calendars; we also display events on our online calendar.
BOOK FESTIVALS, BOOK FAIRS, AND WRITER’S CONFERENCES. We attend book fairs, festivals, and writer’s conferences, where we display new releases and as many of our backlist titles as space allows.
BOOKMARKS, POSTERS, POSTCARDS, BUSINESS CARDS. We are happy to design and print bookmarks, posters, postcards, and business cards, which help to promote our authors and their books.
YOUR ONLINE PRESENCE. We create a page for each of our authors on our website that includes author bio, photo, links to their social media and website. We can also develop a simple or interactive author website, where authors can offer their books for direct sale to buyers. Our rates are in line with most website design companies.
OUTSIDE PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. We make our authors aware of promotional opportunities they can pursue independently to grow sales.
MARKETING TIPS. We regularly develop and email marketing tips to our authors to help them market and sell their books.
ACCESSIBILITY. At Brandylane/Belle Isle Books, we set ourselves apart by providing personal attention and guidance to our authors far beyond what is offered by most publishing houses. Authors are always welcome to call or email our design or PR team with marketing or other questions. Authors are also invited to visit our Richmond office to talk books, marketing, or publishing, or to just have a cup of coffee and lounge in our reading room!
