Albert is the story of a mouse—a mischievous, fun-loving and very special mouse. There have been many stories about adventurous, talking mice, but there’s never been a story about a mouse who bakes delicious treats with love and sunshine and delivers them to your doorstep all wrapped in red bows. This is a story about how Albert came to live with Bob and Franny, and how he learned to share love, kindness, and sweet surprises with everyone just to make them merry.
Albert is about loving, baking, and giving. And inside, you’ll find recipes, labels, and inspiration for finding the Albert in your own heart.

More About Beth Roberts
Beth Roberts has been writing and drawing since preschool. When she was a kid, she wrote on an old typewriter, which she still has. It even inspired her logo! Her knack for writing became apparent when she scored 3rd place in a grade-school writing contest, and she's had a particular love for it ever since. Along with fiction, she loves to write poetry. When writing, Beth says, you can “make your own world.” Beth loves putting pictures and words together, which is why she writes picture books. This passion also led her to draw Garfield comics when she was in school. All these activities helped her hone her art and make her into the wonderful author and illustrator she is today!
Beth loves all kinds of art. Besides writing and illustrating, her favorite hobby is photography! As a kid, she used to take pictures of her stuffed animals. Then, in college, she created a “mini makeshift darkroom” to develop her images. These days, Beth takes pictures for family and friends, and enjoys helping with Christmas cards, yearbooks, and the like. Her favorite kind of photos to capture are portraits, candids, and outdoor settings. Her favorite subjects? Her kids!
Beth loves to bake -- who knew? The author of Albert is a creative baker who doesn’t often follow recipes. She challenges herself to be unique, always seeking that “magical baking moment when everything is perfect.” Her favorite thing to cook is breakfast, especially new recipes she hasn’t tried before. The chocolate chip cookie recipe featured in Albert is Beth’s creation, as she once had a life goal of developing the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe. In the Roberts household, baking is a family affair! Beth and her kids love getting crafty in the kitchen, and even Beth's mother-in-law, Fran, developed a recipe that appears in Albert!
Where did Albert come from? In the book, Albert the mouse came from Alsace on a plane. In real life, the character of Albert came from Beth’s father-in-law, Bob Barnard! He told stories of Albert that Beth loved, so she took the little mouse and made his stories her own. Bob’s wife, Fran, is responsible for the delicious recipe “Fran’s Bran-Oatmeal Cookie” featured in the book. Beth’s family is very important to her. She’s known her husband since college, and he edits her books! Her children love Albert, and their names are even hidden in the illustrations! See for yourself if you can find three names hidden in the images of Albert.
